What the Academy is
The Academy is where most of MedWHOLE's work happens, and where it has been happening longest. It began in 2021 with twenty-one children in a church hall in Gosa.
This August it ran two full summer schools at the same time. On the busiest morning, four hundred and thirty children were in Gosa classrooms.
Everything under the Academy is free. There is no entrance test, no uniform to buy, and no fee at any stage.

Curriculum & Mentorship
Lessons, skills and character
Every Summer School morning covers mathematics, English and reading. From the second week, the Skill Lab opens: bead making, soap making, stool making and tote bags, so that a child leaves having made something as well as learned something.
Career Compass, health and hygiene, and personal safety sit inside the timetable rather than beside it. Underneath all of it run character, values and faith.
Children read one to one with a teacher so that learning can be measured rather than assumed.
Community Demographics
Children and teenagers
More than four in ten of our Summer School students are of secondary-school age, and on most mornings the largest single class is JSS 1 and 2.
That shapes what we teach. A fifteen-year-old preparing for WAEC needs exam coaching and a conversation about careers, not the same lesson as a seven-year-old.

Gosa and Kunyami
The Academy has run in Gosa every year since 2021. In 2026 it opened in Kunyami: the Good News Club in February, and Summer School in August.
The transfer worked quickly. Attendance at Kunyami's Summer School nearly doubled during the first four days and was still rising when the week ended.
